Our Lady of Walsingham Pilgrimage
Year 6 Pilgrimage to Walsingham
We visited the Catholic and Anglican Shrines in Walsingham. We began by looking at the 14 Stations of the Cross crosses, carried from up to 236 miles away in 1948. We spent time in the Slipper and Holy Ghost chapels before walking the Holy Mile.
After arriving at the Our Lady of Walsingham Shrine, we spent time in the Holy Shrine, listening to Father Graham and Father Ben. We undertook a ‘Sprinkling’ at the Holy Well, built of 11th century stonework and discovered in 1931. We were offered Holy Water to drink, received the sign of the cross with Holy Water and received Holy Water in our hands.
We then went into the Holy House, which represents the Holy House in Nazareth, in which the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary at the Annunciation. We lit candles and had a period of reflection.
